Perennial flower beds can add a beautiful element of color to your shady garden areas and landscapes. Many shade
tolerant perennial flowers, and some areas even prefer shade, but you must make sure that the garden flowers you planted in accordance with the amount of shade your garden receives.
There are basically four different categories of shade that is suitable for different plants and garden flowers:
* Shading light (also known as “filtered shade” or “thin shadow”) usually refers to areas that receive two to three hours of daily shade.
* Medium shade (also called “partial shade,” “half shadow” or “semi-shadow”) is an area that has four or five hours a day without direct sunlight.
* Full Refuge is an area where there is no direct sunlight at all during the day, although there is direct or reflected sunlight available for plants.
* Shading Deep (also known as “heavy shade” and “dense shadow”) is an area where there is no direct sunlight or indirectly in the daytime.
Once you know what your shade garden, you should be able to choose the appropriate color of perennial garden flowers full of love for the area. Here are some suggestions from some perennial flower color is best for light, medium and full shade conditions.
Light Shade Perennial Flowers
Daffodils / Narcissus (Narcissus). From fall planted bulb you’ll have a beautiful orange, yellow or white flowers are good in light shade.
Foxglove (Digitalis). High lamp-shade, perennial flowers, the foxglove blooms in late summer, sending up flower tower which can easily reach four meters in height.
Columbine (Aquilegia). Native forests, columbines can grow to three meters and comes in various colors. They generally bloom in May and June, and grow in areas with light shade and moist, well drained soil.
Medium Shade Perennial Flowers
Hardy begonia (begonia grandis). There are many types of begonias that grow in tropical climates, but this variety, hardy shade loving medium is an excellent choice for northern gardeners into six zones. They are generally beautiful garden flowers bloom in autumn.
Bleeding Heart (Dicentra) – This plant has a beautiful heart-shaped garden flowers that bloom in May and June. Bleeding heart variety of plants from just feet high to almost three feet tall and prefers medium shade conditions. Poisonous plants, however, so care needs to be done to ensure they are not planted in areas frequented by children or pets.
Daylily (Hemerocallis) – Beautiful bright orange flowers that grow in the medium shade and can be copied easily. In some areas they are classified as dangerous because it quickly weeds in their habits, spreading.
Full Shade Perennial Flowers
Hosta (palm lily). Although hostas are often grown for their beautiful foliage, hostas most also produce beautiful white garden flowers and lavender lilylike blooms in late spring until late summer.
Foam Flower (Tiarella). This wildflower has a white flower that grows up to 12 inches tall and is very tolerant of shade conditions. They can easily be naturalized in shady and humid areas (such as along river banks) or planted in mass to create a beautiful ground cover. By Michelle Day
